High schoolers from Greater Cincinnati forming drumline for Opening Day Parade
It wouldn't be Reds' Opening Day without the iconic Findlay Market Parade.
As the city gets ready to come together to celebrate our team, high schoolers from across our area are coming together to be part of the magic.
A newly formed drumline, making its debut at this year's parade.
They're the Cincinnati All Star Drumline; Every student in it was handpicked by their school's band director to be an 'All Star'.
"Opening day, certainly one of my favorite days of the year, and it not only is celebrating Major League Baseball and our Cincinnati Reds, but it's just the representation of the city of Cincinnati and everyone coming together for a celebration. And that's really what the All Star Drumline is certainly about as well," says Brandon Dittgen, the assistant band director at Milford High School.
Dittgen is one of the founders of the All Stars.
"Myself and some other local band directors, music educators, were talking about coming up with a way to get our students to collaborate with one another," says Dittgen.
Those students that were selected were sent music and put in the work practicing on their own time.
This weekend, they came together to practice for the first time.
Wednesday night was their second and final practice before the big day - but that's all these pro's need.
"With a title like Cincinnati All Star, we really were looking for all-star talent," says Dittgen.
This year, the students participating come from Milford, Campbell County and Ryle High Schools.
Dittgen said he hopes to keep this going in the years to come.
